Pronto e Fresco solar PV and energy efficiency

HUME CITY COUNCIL, under the BUSINESS EFFICIENCY NETWORK has supported Melbourne Food Manufacturer PRONTO E FRESCO to cut costs and environmental impact.

Pronto e Fresco is a leading Australian manufacturer of quality antipasto based in Broadmeadows, with a range of delicious, innovative, gourmet Australian vegetable products including semi-dried tomatoes, roasted peppers, grilled mushrooms, grilled eggplant, grilled pumpkin and other unique char-grilled and marinated vegetables.

As a BEN member, Pronto e Fresco’s sustainability journey commenced four years ago when they attended the BEN GreenPower Forum which explored opportunities for energy efficient lighting and power from renewable energy for business.

With assistance from energy efficiency engineer Jon Fettes at Genesis Now, Pronto E Fresco were successful in their application for the AusIndustry Clean Technology Investment Program (CTIP). This enabled the business to:

·         Retrofit with individually controlled intelligent LED lighting

·         Purchase new, variable speed air compressors

·         Install a 100kW Solar PV system on their roof

Pronto e Fresco is now saving approximately $80,000 per year on their energy costs.

The business also monitors its energy usage with eco-tracker, to keep on top of any issues and to ensure their energy efficiency investments are operating at their best.

The business has also successfully applied for further support through the Sustainability Victoria grants program: Smarter Resources, Smarter Business to reduce their gas bill by diverting waste heat from their cooling system back into their factory process with a heat exchanger.
